Mobifume is the mobile cyanoacrylate fuming system for the development of fingerprints at crime scenes

Cyanoacrylate (superglue) fuming is a method for developing fingerprints on non-porous surfaces, such as metal, glass, and plastics. Our MOBIfume series has been developed specifically for those who need all the high quality and reliability of a laboratory fuming chamber in a mobile unit suitable for use at a crime scene or in a larger fuming space such as a garage or evidence treatment tent.

MOBIfume is a new innovative system that lets users fume an entire crime scene at once if needed. Our modular system can be scaled depending on the size and shape of the space required to fume, suitable for evidence development in a small fuming tent or a large aeroplane hangar. Each MOBIfume unit can run a complete cycle, including a purge cycle to remove leftover cyanoacrylate from the air in the treatment area, using an efficient activated carbon filter.

Our wireless tablet system lets users control and monitor all fuming units remotely. Enable the ability to adjust cycles as needed, monitor filter life with the filter management system, and form groups of fuming units to develop evidence in multiple spaces simultaneously.

Our systems can be set up, taken down, and even dismantled for routine cleaning without special tools. They also come in sturdy handled tarpaulin bags that are easy to wipe clean and practical for storage and transportation.

Innovative Modular Design

MOBIfume standard orders come with a wireless tablet and two complete fuming units. Each fuming unit is a modular all-in-one system that can be connected to the tablet wirelessly and run a complete fuming cycle. Settings for the cycle steps, including the humidification, fuming, and purge cycle, can all be monitored and adjusted via the tablet. More than one unit can run simultaneously, even if different cycle settings are needed.

While MOBIfume can be used in smaller, simple spaces like fuming tents, our modular and scalable systems allow for greater flexibility, perfect for the complex aspects of crime scenes. For example, crime scenes may have different shapes, sizes, and materials. In addition, crime scenes cannot always be adjusted to fit the equipment, so MOBIfume lets users adjust the equipment to fit the crime scene.

In addition to being advantageous at complex crime scenes (like drug labs, where there may be many cables and sheets of a plastic present that need to be developed), MOBIfume can be an advantage when large bulky pieces of evidence need to be treated. Evidence can be treated right at a scene without the risk of damaging or dismantling it to get it to a lab before fingerprints get developed.

Innovative Control System – MOBIfume

MOBIfume is controlled via a large rechargeable multilingual full-colour touch screen tablet. Once fuming units are connected to power, the tablet connects to the MOBIfume fuming units wirelessly. Users can control units individually, form groups of them and run them all with the same settings, or run different units with different settings simultaneously if needed.

In addition to the pre-programmed setting options, users can also fully customize their cycle settings to adjust for different spaces, different evidence types, and even different types of developers. All steps of the development process can be monitored via the tablet and adjusted during a cycle if needed.

For those who need to fume evidence in spaces where it is difficult for a wireless signal to travel, we also offer the option to connect the tablet to our wireless transmitter—using a cable to extend the signal range without worrying about wiring and sealing cable lines in an evidence room.

Scalable Concept

MOBIfume standard orders come with a wireless tablet and two complete fuming units. Each fuming unit is a modular all-in-one system that can be connected to the tablet wirelessly and run a complete fuming cycle. A single fuming unit can fume a room 50 – 60 m³. Adding another unit makes it possible to fume 100 – 120 m³ of space. Thanks to our modular and scalable design, users can connect up to 99 fuming units to a single tablet at once, allowing large garages and even many different building rooms to be fumed simultaneously.

Users can choose to run units all using the same cycle settings, customize the parameters for individual units or large groups of units, and run different development cycles simultaneously from a single tablet. This is useful for simultaneously fuming multiple areas and complex crime scenes. Many crime scenes, especially in residential areas, have much variety in the shape of the space and the material in that space.

Materials in different parts of a room can make it advantageous to have units with different humidity settings set up in different areas of the room, and rooms with complex shapes can benefit from being able to position units where there are most needed.

Innovative Filter Management

Like our other cyanoacrylate fuming systems, MOBIfume systems utilize a high-quality low-dust carbon filter to remove cyanoacrylate from the fuming area after a cycle is completed. This filter is highly effective at purging the chamber air, meaning no additional external ventilation system is required. The filter can quickly be swapped out without any tools when it is time for a filter change. Our modular design lets users swap parts between different fuming units if needed.

The highlight of our filter system, however, is the filter management program. Based on the worst-case scenario, many cyanoacrylate fuming chambers on the market estimate the filter life. 

Accuracy is essential, and our filter management system keeps track of the system’s true filter life. As a result, users can tell the system precisely what kind of cyanoacrylate developer they are using and how much of it they are using. In addition, the system will automatically calculate, adjust, and track the filter saturation and indicate when the filter requires replacement, ensuring the maximum life of the filters.

MOBIfume Black Edition

Our standard MOBIfume units have durable white powder-coating. In addition to the standard white version, we now offer the MOBIfume Black Edition with a high-quality black coating.

Users who have worked with cyanoacrylate before know that it does not just stick to the evidence; it sticks to equipment too. Potentially contaminating other evidence can cause equipment to wear down quickly and malfunction over time. We know this is important, so in addition to making sure, all our MOBIfume units can be easily dismantled and cleaned without tools, this special black coating on MOBIfume Black is resistant to cyanoacrylate adhering to it.

This means any cyanoacrylate residue that does settle on the surface of the equipment can be removed easily, reducing the time and labour needed to keep the equipment clean.

Specialized Evidence Fuming Tent

While MOBIfume can be used right at a crime scene, sometimes it is necessary or valuable to be able to create a fuming room on the go. The advantage is that it enables users to fume many pieces of evidence in one space or build a fuming room around a large piece of evidence, like a car that might be difficult to transport.

For this, we offer a specialized fuming tent for cyanoacrylate fuming. Our fuming tents have been specially designed to be used with and produce high-quality results with MOBIfume. In addition, tents can be set up quickly and easily without tools and folded into compact storage bags.

We have designed these to come in two halves so users who need to build a fuming space around larger objects can connect the two halves of the tent in the middle to form one sizeable fuming tent. A tent wall can also be attached to each half of the tent, so users can only utilize one half of the tent if they require a smaller fuming space, or a wall can be attached between the two halves to form a large tent with multiple fuming rooms.

Users who know that they may need to set up a tent at a location where the ground is uneven or damp can also choose to attach the durable tent floor panels. These provide a clean waterproof surface for evidence to sit on and better seal the fuming area to make evidence development more effective and predictable.

The exterior walls are white to reflect light and prevent the tent from becoming hot in sunny weather, but the inside has a blackout layer of material. This makes it easier to examine evidence when searching for fingerprints developed with fluorescent powder. In particular, this layer is resistant to cyanoacrylate, making it easier to clean and decontaminate for better DNA safety.
